“You always smell like cake” my fiancé says as I walk in. Not the worst thing in the world, to be honest. Working in a bakery definitely has it’s perks. Whether it’s the occasional (okay more like daily) cupcake, sampling a new recipe or simply the interaction that comes with getting to know a group of people on a personal level, my job is far from boring and I have grown to appreciate and even look forward to the hustle and bustle that comes from being a part of a constantly growing and expanding business.

Of course, Fluffy Thoughts is much more than just a bakery. In a typical Saturday we can see 10 wedding cake tastings, as many custom made cakes and twice as many cupcake and dessert orders. However, there is also the behind the scenes that goes on during the week. The planning, scheduling and appointment setting. The preparation for the next few months, the bridal shows, client meetings and (what seem like endless) emails.

One important fact does remain constant day to day. The commitment that flows through each baker, decorator, and sales associate. The dedication that you can expect from the time the order is placed until the moment you take the first bite. In all of my previous jobs I can say with certainty that this is the first time that I have experienced such passion in a work place.

And I can also assure you that the end results most definitely do not disappoint. The way the cream cheese so perfectly complements the rich red velvet cake or the light tang of lemon curd that contrasts the sweetness of whipped vanilla buttercream, and knowing that everything you’re eating is made from scratch with real butter, eggs, and flour. In my opinion, this is the only way cake should ever be made. No boxed mix here!

I always get asked how I resist eating everything is sight. The honest answer is that I don’t know. It’s definitely a challenge and I will let you know once it gets easier ( hasn’t happened yet). The goal of this blog is to provide a first-hand experience into the day to day adventures of Fluffy Thoughts and to give you a behind the scenes look at what we do. We love our jobs and would like to invite you to join us and hopefully convince you to start thinking fluffy!
